how to draw a panda on a tree

A panda looks like a bear with a black and white color. They are very cute in cartoons and in reality they look really nice and cuddly -- but they can be very aggressive at times when scared, shocked or irritated. So don't go running to hug one that you see because it might sweep you off your feet, literally. Let's begin!

Watch our step by step video here!

  1. 1

Begin by drawing outline sketches using pencil: sketch two intersecting ovals that look somewhat like the numeral eight.

  2. 2

Draw vertical and horizontal guidelines lightly, within the head outline.

  3. 3

    Sketch curves for the ears.

  4. 4

Draw curves for the front legs and ovals for the hind feet. We are making a cartoon type panda; so, you don't have to make it look detailed.

  5. 5

Darken the actual lines for the head and the body.

  6. 6

Add the detail shapes for the features of the face. Use circles for the eyes, curves for the nose and mouth, and then erase any extra parts of the pencil sketches and guidelines.

  7. 7

    Fill in the basic colors.

  8. 8

Add the shadows, on the face and body, and the background.

  1. 1

Begin with the outline sketch of the head, using pencil. Draw an oval shape for the outline of the head.

  2. 2

Add a longer standing oval shape. This is an outline sketch for the upper back of the panda.

  3. 3

Sketch oval outlines for the lower back and the hips of the panda.

  4. 4

Add the outline sketches of the front legs, feet and hind legs.

  5. 5

Sketch 3 vertical lines and one horizontal line as guidelines for the eyes. Add the eyes, using guidelines for aligning the features nicely.

  6. 6

Add the nose and mouth outline sketches.

  7. 7

Draw the outline sketches for the ears.

  8. 8

Darken the light outline sketches for the actual detail lines.

  9. 9

Get oil pastels or crayons to color the panda (option: use colored pencils, markers or watercolors).

    • When you are making realistic drawings, add details as much as possible. So, add the fur, correct colors, actual shapes and erase any extra parts of the outlines; use as thin lines as possible.
  10. 10

    Add the background.

    Community Answer

You draw baby pandas the same way as you would a regular panda, but they will be smaller and the eyes could be bigger (to show innocence).

  • Question

If I make it red and purple, will that make it unrecognizable?

    Qamar

Not really, as long as the panda is drawn correctly. Use any colors you'd like to color in the panda.

  • Question

    Can I make cuter eyes?

    Community Answer

Yes. You can just make small circles in the eyes and not color them in. It will look as if the pandas eyes are shining in a cute way.

About this article

Article Summary X

To draw a panda, first draw a circle for the head. Then, draw a vertical oval that overlaps with the left half of the head for the panda's upper back. Draw a horizontal oval that overlaps with the left side of the first oval for the panda's lower back and hips. Now, draw two legs coming off the bottom of the vertical oval and two legs coming off the bottom of the horizontal oval. Sketch 2 circles inside the head for the eyes, then draw a smaller circle inside each eye for the pupils. Add the panda's snout and nose under the eyes. Next, draw an upside-down U shape on each side of the head for the panda's ears. Go over the outline of your panda with a pen or marker to darken it, then shade in the furwith a black colored pencil or marker. For more tips, including how to draw a realistic panda, read on!
